As you’ve read, I love baking. I also love fingering through cookbooks; my own, friends’ and at the bookstore (well, anywhere I can get my hands on them). And now, with the great expanse of the internet, I love wandering through baking and recipe sites looking for cupcake (my most favorite item to bake) recipes. Since you’re reading this you’re probably thinking “hey, that’s me too”.
It use to be (I know, you’re thinking “in the old days”) that you would find a recipe in a cookbook or receive one from family or friends, and the recipe was cherished for years, and even handed down to children, because it was so delicious. Today I find myself frustrated with the quality (yes quality, not quantity) of recipes floating through cyber space. It seems to me the measurements are incorrect, ingredients are missing or the directions aren’t quite right. What’s up with that? The amount of money I’ve spent making recipe after recipe, only for it to turn out badly or inedible, is taking a toll on my shrinking baking account.
I’ve been stewing over this for sometime. I wished for a site where the recipes were baked and evaluated, so we wouldn’t have to go through all this frustration. So with that, this blog was born. A couple of nights ago I came across a quote from Candace Nelson, owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes (which you can find on my Quotes page) and realized not only was I not alone in my thinking but was, in fact, in good company.
Each month I will choose a flavor and bake my way through the recipes I’ve gathered. I will post the recipe information, photos and my findings. Each post will receive a “cupcakelab rating” of the good, the bad or the ugly (if you read my header, it’s my mission statement). When I find a recipe that is wonderful, I will post it on my “Best-Of” Recipes page to share with you.
I hope to hear from you. I welcome your comments and insights.
